Inter Service Swimming The Inter-Service swimming competition takes place in July each year between the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force. In 2009 the competition was hosted by the Royal Navy at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth. With a few new editions to the team this year the Royal Navy men's team went into the event hopeful that they could set a new Inter-Service record for the most consecutive wins. The event started well with 1st and 2nd places in many of the opening events. This form continued with nearly all the mens placing in the top 3 and collecting individual medals. The competition turned into a domination by the men who won by a record margin to extend their winning run to 11 out of the last 12 years, which has never been achieved in Inter-Service swimming before.
The ladies team this year were the strongest they have been for some time and were in with a real chance of winning the event. Some excellent individual performances saw the women push the Army right to the wire to finish in a close second place, their best result for many years. The 2010 Inter-Service Championship will be held in RAF Cranwell and will hopefully see the men's team continue their winning streak and the women's team start a winning run of their own.
