Combined Services Sports Awards 2009

On March 4th 2010 the Royal Navy Swimming Team were named Combined Services Sports Team of the Year at a ceremony in the RAF Club, London, capping off a very successful year for Royal Navy Swimming.  The award, presented by HRH The Duke of Kent, reflected the huge successes of the team throughout 2009, which began with them capturing the Inter-Service Open Water Title in June.  This was followed shortly after by the men's team achieving another win in the Inter-Service Pool competition hosted at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth.  There was no rest for the swimmers as the next challenge was a relay race across the English Channel against the Army and RAF, resulting in another win for the Royal Navy Team.  The year was capped off with the teams participation in the World Masters Games in Sydney, where the team came back with 16 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze medals.

The team hope to continue this success into 2010 with more Inter-Service titles at stake and the prospect of an cross Solent swim in the summer to cap off the Royal Navy Swimming Centenary year.
